Spotify Playlist: I’M DATING A BISEXUAL (CIRCA 1992) 

Making Spotify playlists for fictional characters or people that I just completely make up has become my new addiction (Millie & Beth are my partners in crime for this lame hobby).

This is one me & Millie made up for a bisexual dude circa 1992 (obvs). Here’s a little bit of his character sketch/bio: 

• Is 20, almost 21.
• Works at the mall as a Key Holder for Chest King. (Later drops out of college to take an asst. manager position at Structure).
• Works the door/coat check at a 24 hour club downtown 3 nights a week.
• Drives a red Eagle Talon but really wants a blue Mazda Miata.
• Helps throw “Safe Sex is Fun Sex”/AIDS Awareness seminars with these two lesbians he knows from the club.
• Can pull off polka dotted rayon tops and those flip up sunglasses too.
• First sexual experience was a BJ from his school’s starting point guard during the Summer after they went to go see Batman for the 4th time (and then snuck into Do the Right Thing).
• His next was a similar experience with a girl after seeing The Fabulous Baker Boys.
• Wears those shiny black shoes (in the Summer too).
• Definitely prefers Genera over Guess?.
• Sleeping with his District Manager.
• Crushing on the new guy at Wilson’s Leather and this kind of older girl at The Limited.
• This is a mix tape he makes for a Spring Break road trip.
• Will eventually come completely out of the closet later in 1992 when he is confronted with the Marky Mark Calvin Klein underwear ads.

Sisters of Mercy - Marian (1984)

I’m gonna go on record and declare “Marian” by The Sisters of Mercy as the ultimate goth song.  It’s haunting, romantic and melodramatic.  It’s also perfect for doing those really exaggerated sweeping goth moves as well as the industrial hop around move.  What more can you ask for in a goth anthem? 

I want this to play as I walk in the doors of any goth night.  So in case there’s ever a time machine and I go back to the mid 80s, take note. 

Dimples Tee - “Jealous Fellas” (1987)

I can’t tell you how hard I was turning this song out with my walkman when I was 10 years old. “Wouldn’t let you in my home. Wouldn’t let you touch me, baby!”  I had this and Salt-N-Pepa’s “Hot Cool & Vicious” on constant rotation.

The Walkmen - The Christmas Party

One of my favorite things about The Walkmen is that they seem to really like Christmas time, which is kind of refreshing. If people stopped complaining so much about how they hate the Holidays and made an effort to spend some extra time with your friends, go out to the bars, enjoy the lights and decorations, eat some rum cake, or make your own traditions then it can be really awesome.  Nothing is more boring to me than hearing someone go on about how much they can’t stand Christmas. 

Anyways. This song is great and sort of makes you feel like you’re leaving a friend’s party all buzzed and full of cookies and mixed nuts. Cheers to that kind of Holiday tradition.
